Air classifiers use centrifugal force and drag to separate particles based on size, shape, and density. Material enters a classification chamber where an air stream carries lighter, finer particles upward while heavier, coarser particles fall downward or exit through a reject port. The separation cut point is controlled by adjusting rotor speed and airflow volume, enabling operators to achieve precise particle-size distributions without mechanical screens.
Turbo screen classifiers combine air classification with a rotating screen element. An internal blower creates high-velocity air movement while the screen provides an additional separation barrier, resulting in sharper cut points and higher throughput for materials that benefit from both screening and air classification. These units are common in applications where a consistent particle size distribution is critical.
Mechanical air classifiers use a spinning rotor, or whizzer blade, to create a centrifugal field that drives separation. Particles above the cut size are rejected to the coarse outlet, while particles below the cut size exit with the airflow to a cyclone collector. This design handles high throughput rates and works well with abrasive materials.
