Used Capsule Banding Equipment

Capsule banding machines apply a gelatin or HPMC seal around the joint where the capsule cap meets the body. This band prevents the leakage of liquid or semi-solid fills and provides visible tamper evidence for consumer safety. Banding is standard practice for liquid-filled hard gelatin capsules where the capsule closure alone may not provide an adequate seal.

Federal Equipment Company stocks used capsule banding equipment from manufacturers including Qualicaps, Capsugel, Schaefer Technologies, and ACG-PAM. Our inventory includes lab-scale banders and production units rated up to 125,000 capsules per hour with change parts for capsule sizes 00 through 5.

Capsule banding equipment applies a narrow band of gelatin or HPMC solution around the seam where the capsule cap and body meet. The capsule rotates while contacting a solution-coated wheel or roller, depositing a thin film that dries to form a sealed ring. Most production banders include integrated drying stations, blowers, and vacuum systems to cure the band before discharge.

Banding serves two primary functions. First, the seal prevents liquid, paste, or hygroscopic fills from migrating between the cap and body during storage and handling. Second, the visible band provides tamper evidence—any attempt to open the capsule breaks the band and is immediately apparent to the end user.

Federal Equipment Company carries capsule banders from Qualicaps/Shionogi (S-100, S-125, Hicapsoal 40), Capsugel (LEMS series), Schaefer Technologies (Lab-Top), and ACG-PAM. Equipment ranges from benchtop lab units processing up to 100 capsules per hour to production machines rated at 125,000 capsules per hour. Many units include change parts for multiple capsule sizes. Equipment can be inspected and tested at our facility prior to shipment.

Why Buy Used Capsule Banding Equipment?

Used capsule banders offer a cost-effective path for manufacturers adding liquid-fill capability or tamper-evident packaging to their operations. Pre-owned equipment typically costs 40-60% less than new machines while providing equivalent functionality. Lead times for used equipment are measured in days or weeks rather than the months often required for new machine delivery.

Federal Equipment Company can inspect, test, and refurbish capsule banding equipment prior to shipment. Change parts for multiple capsule sizes are often available from our inventory or can be sourced to match your production requirements.
